( 1976 ) Gardimycin, a new antibiotic from Actinoplanes. I. Description of the producer strain and fermentation studies. PMID : 956037 DOI : 10.7164/antibiotics.29.501 Abstract >>
Two strains of Actinoplanes have been isolated that produce a new peptide antibiotic named gardimycin. A detailed taxonomical study of such strains indicates that they differ between themselves and from all the described species of Actinoplanes. For this reason they are considered to be new species; for which the names A. garbadinensis nov. sp. and A. liguriae nov. sp. are proposed. The type strain of A. garbadinensis is A/10889(=ATCC 31049), the type strain of A. liguriae is A/6353 (=ATCC 31048). Studies on the medium and fermentation conditions are reported.

( 2006 ) Actinoplanes liguriensis sp. nov. and Actinoplanes teichomyceticus sp. nov. PMID : 16957109 DOI : 10.1099/ijs.0.64240-0 Abstract >>
The taxonomic status of 'Actinoplanes liguriae' A/6353 and 'Actinoplanes teichomyceticus' AB8327 was established by using a polyphasic approach. Strains A/6353 and AB8327 form distinct phylogenetic lineages in the 16S rRNA gene tree of members of the genus Actinoplanes and are related moderately and closely to Actinoplanes rectilineatus and Actinoplanes cyaneus, respectively. Morphological, cultural and physiological properties indicated that strains A/6353 and AB8327 represent separate, novel species of the genus Actinoplanes, Actinoplanes liguriensis sp. nov.
